The Miami Dolphins plan to strengthen their wide receiver room, and Tyreek Hill has a suggestion for who they should get this summer. The eight-time Pro Bowler believes Michael Thomas should sign with the Miami Dolphins. Following his release from the New Orleans Saints, Thomas is free to join any NFL team this summer.
Tyreek Hill and Michael Thomas share similarities, as both surpassed the 1,700-yard threshold in a single NFL season, with the former doing it in 2022 and 2023 and the latter achieving such in 2019.
“Just throwing out there, Michael Thomas in Miami would be 🥹” wrote Hill on his X (formerly known as Twitter).
Michael Thomas is coming off yet another injury-riddled campaign in 2023, as he only played in 10 regular-season games, tallying 39 receptions for 448 receiving yards and one touchdown. His season was cut short due to a knee injury, which he blamed on his former quarterback, Derek Carr.
Is this suggestion by Tyreek Hill a good idea for the Miami Dolphins?
The Miami Dolphins do need to bolster their depth at the WR position behind Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, so bringing in Michael Thomas is not a bad idea, especially if they get him on a discount.
Since Thomas, 31, is no longer the explosive player he once was, the Miami Dolphins should have the leverage to sign him for cheap. In the Miami Dolphins’ free agency preview, the PFF projected a one-year, $6 million contract for Michael Thomas next season, including only $4.5 million guaranteed, which is well within the budget.
“Thomas is still a smooth glider who can make contested catches with great hands and footwork along the sideline,” wrote the PFF. “He doesn’t quite have the same explosiveness of his heydays, but elite athleticism was never necessarily how he won as more of a master technician, so it’s all a question of health.”
Tyreek Hill on the Miami Dolphins free agency so far
Tyreek Hill said on March 12 that the Miami Dolphins are having a “sneaky great free agency” despite their slow start on Monday afternoon.
After waiving Xavien Howard and losing Christian Wilkins and Raekwon Davis to the Las Vegas Raiders and Indianapolis Colts, respectively, Miami picked up a couple of free agents, such as Siran Neal and Neville Gallimore, and it looks like they’re far from finished.
