The Ohio State Buckeyes will have a new starting quarterback for the fourth straight season. After Will Howard led Ohio State to another championship, it will be up to a different quarterback to lead them to another title.

Head coach Ryan Day has not figured out yet who will be the starting quarterback, but it appears as if he is one step closer to making a decision in who will be the week one starter against the Texas Longhorns of the 2025 college football season. At the start of the competition, it was a three-horse race between Tavien St. Clair, Julian Sayin, and Lincoln Keinholz.
Ohio State Buckeyes Head Coach Ryan Day Rules Out Freshman Quarterback Tavien St. Clair As Starter

Earlier in the week, Buckeyes head coach Day gave an update about the starting quarterback battle. He said the quarterback competition is now a “two-horse race.” This means that St. Clair has been ruled out as the starting quarterback and Sayin or Keinholz will be the starter in 2025.
Jonathan D Adams of Athlon Sports also said about the Buckeyes quarterback competition,
“Sayin has widely been viewed as the favorite to replace Will Howard. Yet, Day indicated the race may be closer than fans expected. It appears Kienholz is gaining ground on Sayin to potentially win the starting job. Sayin is a former Alabama Crimson Ride transfer with a strong recruiting pedigree. This is a less than ideal update for St. Clair. The former five-star quarterback was Rivals’ No.2 player in the 2025 recruiting class. There had been some hope that St. Clair’s talent would allow him to compete immediately with the more veteran signal-callers. Yet, Day indicated St. Clair is essentially eliminated from the competition, barring an unforeseen change as the fall approaches.”
With St. Clair out of the race, he will most likely be the third quarterback on the depth chart for Ohio State entering the 2025 college football season. The battle between Sayin and Keinholz will have Buckeyes fans on the edge of their seats throughout the course of summer football and also training camp. St. Clair will no doubt in the Buckeyes football program, but it may not be in 2025 for Ohio State.
