The Ohio State Buckeyes had a few players get drafted in the first round, but both running backs went in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft. The New England Patriots selected running back TreVeyon Henderson with the 38th overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Quinshon Judkins was drafted 36th overall by the Cleveland Browns in the 2025 NFL Draft. Both of those running backs played a key role in Ohio State’s run to a national title during the 2024 season. It was not a surprise to see Henderson and Judkins drafted in the beginning of the second-round. However, when New England was on the clock 38th overall, there were a couple of teams who wanted to trade up with them for him.
New England Patriots Turned Down Trade Calls In Order To Select Ohio State Buckeyes TreVeyon Henderson

NBC Sports writer Michael David Smith wrote on Monday about how New England declined two trade offers from the number 38th overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft. Smith said,
“In the first episode of the Patriots’ Forged in Foxboro video series, cameras inside the draft room showed the offers the Patriots were getting while on the clock at No. 38.
The Bears, who owned the 39th pick, offered a seventh-round pick if the Patriots would move down one spot. The Patriots believed the Bears were going to take Henderson themselves if they made the trade, so they declined the offer.
The Texans also tried to get the 38th pick, offering the Patriots a package of three picks in a swap: The No. 58 and No. 79 picks in the 2025 draft as well as a third-round pick in 2026. Again, the Patriots declined.”
New England made the right move by declining the Chicago Bears offer no doubt. Chicago would have drafted Henderson with that selection had they flipped spots in the second-round. It was a surprise when the Bears didn’t draft a running back in the first round or that they decided to draft tight end Colston Loveland from the Michigan Wolverines instead of Tyler Warren from the Penn State Nittany Lions instead.
The Bears drafted wide receiver Luther Burden III from the Missouri Tigers 39th overall instead in the 2025 NFL Draft. As for the Houston Texans, the Patriots would have been trading too far down in the 2025 NFL Draft. Henderson was one of the best running back prospects on the board at the time of the pick.
The former Buckeyes running back during the 2024 college football season played in 16 games. He rushed for 1,016 yards on 144 carries and 10 touchdowns, along with averaging 7.1 yards per rush. Henderson also caught 27 passes for 284 yards receiving and one touchdown, along with averaging 10.5 yards per reception.
He could very well be the starting running back for the Patriots in Week 1. Henderson has a chance to play well during his rookie season. He is another weapon in New England’s offense for head coach Mike Vrabel and quarterback Drake Maye. They also signed wide receiver Stefon Diggs to a three-year $69 million deal in the offseason. Henderson will be a running threat and a receiving threat out of the backfield and should be able to productive right away at the NFL level.
