Tulane is coming off of back-to-back years of winning seasons. After going 12-2 last year, they followed it up with an 11-3 year in 2023. When a Group of 5 school has success, it usually means larger programs harvest their programs for talent. The Green Wave is flipping the script and landed former Alabama wide receiver Shazz Preston from the transfer portal.

Tulane Adds WR Shazz Preston
Preston was one of many high-profile recruits who didn’t see the field much in 2023. He appeared in 10 games over the past two years, mostly on special teams and in games where they were blowing out inferior teams. The potential is there. Preston was ranked as the sixth-best wide receiver in the 2022 class. This is a huge get for the Green Wave. The program is looking to continue its recent success and maybe even sneak into the College Football Playoff.
NIL Isn’t Just For The Large Programs
Many people were concerned that with the rise of NIL, smaller programs would never be able to compete. Make no mistake, Tulane is paying for Preston’s services. It is great that a smaller program can still get top-tier talent in this college football landscape. Many were wondering whether smaller programs would suffer, but Tulane is proving that narrative to be false. For Preston, it likely guarantees he gets way more playing time in the upcoming season.
The Green Wave fan base is looking for another double-digit wins season. They are building a high-octane offense, which should help them make some noise in the 2024 season.
