The Jacksonville Jaguars revealed troubling news for starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence following their loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in overtime on Monday Night Football. The defeat will hamper the Jaguars’ chances of being the number-one seed in the AFC season.
But they have other things to worry about. Lawrence had to leave Monday’s game in the fourth quarter after his leg was stepped on. He didn’t return, and the Jaguars would go on to lose the game after Bengals backup quarterback Jake Browning had a terrific night.Jacksonville Jaguars have unfortunate injury news
The Jaguars provided an update on Lawrence after the game. According to Adam Schefter with ESPN, initial tests indicate Lawrence has a sprained ankle. He will have additional tests done Monday night and Tuesday to see how severe the injury is.Initial testing showed that Jaguars’ QB Trevor Lawrence sprained his ankle, per source. Per Tom Christ, Lawrence could have anything from a PCL to a fracture.

Ankle get stepped on (video 1) consistent with a sprain.
Knee goes into hyperflexion (video 2) which is a common mechanism for a PCL injury.

Only seeing reports of ankle right now so hopefully the knee was spared.
However, with his inability to weight bear, fracture is possible

The Jaguars need Lawrence healthy before the playoffs. The Jaguars have been one of the AFC’s best teams in the previous few weeks.
The Jaguars turned to C.J. Beathard to replace Lawrence. He went 9/10 passing for 63 yards. However, Beathard could not outduel Browning, who is filling in for the Bengals after Joe Burrow was lost for the season with an injury.
The AFC race is quickly being determined by which teams still have their starting quarterback healthy enough to play.(12/5/23 Update):
Per Tom Pelissero with the NFL Network, head coach Doug Peterson said Tuesday that Lawrence has a high-ankle sprain on his right ankle. Peterson declined to say Lawrence even had a legitimate chance to play in Week 14 against the Cleveland Browns.
Judging by Pederson’s answer, Lawrence will miss some time due to the injury. Lawrence should be able to return this season. However, the Jaguars’ chances of earning the first-round bye in the AFC are in jeopardy with Lawrence’s injury news.
Asked if Trevor Lawrence has a legitimate shot to play Sunday vs. Cleveland, Pederson says he's not going to put a timetable on it and reiterates they'll see how he looks in a couple of days. https://t.co/AmjTrwmKOC

Bethard y as 9/10 and 63 yards, true. However, he did complete a 40+ pass down to the 2 yard line in overtime. It is reasonably certain that a touchdown would have ensued following the reception, resulting in an overtime win for the Jaguars. An offensive holding call on the play sealed the fate of the Jaguars. Everyone wants to praise the play of reserve quarterback Browning who was playing in his second game for Burrow but, there seems to be little praise for the remarkable effort by Bethard who was thrown into a game with no warning or warmup while victory was definitely on the line. I for one, think he played remarkably well.
