REPORT: Kansas City Chiefs Showing ‘A Lot’ Interest In Replacing Travis Kelce With These 2 Players

The Kansas City Chiefs are doing serious homework on potential replacements for tight end Travis Kelce this offseason. Kelce said following February’s Super Bowl that he plans to return to the Chiefs for a chance at a threepeat.

Travis Kelce could retire after the 2024 season

There was speculation that Kelce would retire following the 2023 season. Travis’ brother Jason retired earlier this week after 13 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. It’s expected Travis will follow him into retirement after the 2024 season.

The Kansas City Chiefs are looking at Ja’Tavion Sanders

Per Tony Pauline with Sportskeeda, the Chiefs have two players in mind to replace Kelce within this year’s draft. The Chiefs are scouting Texas tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders:

“Texas underclassman Ja’Tavion Sanders is a terrific prospect who could slide into the late part of Round 1.

Sanders timed the 40 at just under 4.7 seconds during Combine testing Friday, though he plays much faster. He presently has 20 formal interviews at the Combine, a significant number considering Sanders interviewed with all 32 teams at the Shrine Bowl….

Sanders would be insurance for the Chiefs and Niners, as Travis Kelce is expected to play just one more season”

Most analysts consider Sanders the second-best tight end in this year’s rookie class behind Brock Bowers, who is expected to be a top-ten pick. I asked Sanders about potentially playing with the Bears next season, but his answer would work with Patrick Mahomes inserted for Caleb Williams. Sanders said he believes he can be a number one target on a team at the next level because of his ability to use his body to catch balls.

The Chiefs are interested in Erick All

Iowa tight end Erick All (83) is helped off the field after being injured during the first quarter of their game against Wisconsin Saturday, October 14, 2023 at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Wisconsin. He did not return.

Pauline reported Iowa tight end Erick All is getting attention from the Chiefs also:

“Tight end Erick All of Iowa did not workout at the Combine, as he’s still rehabbing the torn ACL he suffered last October, yet that did not stop teams from throwing a lot of love his way. There are some teams who still believe All could end up as the fourth tight end selected in the draft, somewhere in Round 3.

The tape on All, who measures in the area of 6-foot-4, 252 pounds and is estimated to run in the 4.65-second range, is outstanding, yet it’s limited the past two years. All played in seven games last season before going down with the knee injury and just three the prior year at Michigan before suffering an injury that sidelined him.”

Most draft boards had All listed as a Day 3 pick heading into the NFL Combine. However, per Pauline, he seems to be catching the attention of several tight end-needy teams in this draft cycle, such as the Miami Dolphins and San Francisco 49ers.

The Chiefs need to start planning for life after Kelce. They don’t have much else at pass catcher besides Rashee Rice.
