Cartel groups reportedly took advantage of Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce’s name, image, and likeness to market drugs to young people during Super Bowl weekend. Per Martha Williams with The Daily Mail, the Drug Enforcement Agency seized paper bags in New York with the football player’s name:
“Cartel groups are printing drug bags with Travis Kelce‘s name along with a grainy photo of a footballer to lure youngsters into using fentanyl.
Little white paper bags featuring the NFL player’s name and a picture of a football player were seized by Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agents in New York.
DEA believes that the bags were filled with fentanyl, meth and cocaine and that the cartels are likely using the ‘baggies’ to market to a young and vulnerable market.”
The cartel took advantage of Travis Kelce
The cartel was taking advantage of the star player’s popularity to market drugs to young people. Kelce has been a popular figure in the media as an All-Pro tight end. Kelce gained even more spotlight when he began dating pop star Taylor Swift this summer.
Kelce helped the Kansas City Chiefs win the Super Bowl
The Chiefs played the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl on Sunday. Kelce played a significant role in the Chiefs’ overtime victory to secure Kansas City’s second-straight Super Bowl. He caught nine passes for 93 yards.
There were rumors that Kelce might retire following the 2023 season. Kelce said after the Super Bowl, he intends to go for a threepeat in 2024. Kelce will likely have more spotlight on him next season. Unfortunately, like with the cartel, not all of the spotlight is good.
