The Dallas Cowboys and their NFC East rival, the New York Giants, have agreed to trade terms.
According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Giants are sending veteran defensive tackle Jordan Phillips to the Cowboys.
The New York Giants are receiving draft capital from the Dallas Cowboys
In exchange for a veteran defensive tackle who was a second-round pick from the Oklahoma Sooners, the Cowboys are giving the Giants a sixth-round pick in exchange for a seventh-round pick.
The Giants signed Phillips after the conclusion of the 2023 season but ended up trading him away to the Cowboys before he could see the field.
Had Phillips stayed with the Giants he would have provided value as an interior depth piece among one of the most fearsome defensive lines in the NFL. Now, he will do the same among a young interior defensive line that could use a veteran presence.
Fans from both sides of the deal seem to be happy with the move.

Jordan Phillips will provide a veteran presence for the Dallas Cowboys’ interior DL
The Dallas Cowboys have elite edge rushers on their defensive line including veteran defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence and All-Pro pass rusher Micah Parsons.
The Cowboys have promising young interior defensive linemen like Mazi Smith and Osa Odighizuwa, but they will benefit greatly from someone like Phillips, who will bring an experienced veteran presence as well as on-field impact as a depth piece.
Phillips will be 32-years-old in September and has 62 starts under his belt. The Sooners product has played in 120 NFL games, spending the last two seasons of his career with the Buffalo Bills.
Phillips, who played for the Miami Dolphins and the Arizona Cardinals as well, has accrued 24 career sacks since being drafted in 2015. The veteran defensive tackle has 181 career tackles and is approaching a decade in the league.
Jordan Phillips was accused of being dirty
Now-retired Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce previously accused Phillips of using dirty tactics when the Bills took on the Eagles in late 2023.
Kelce said Phillips was purposely attempting to hurt interior Eagles defensive lineman Cam Jurgens when the Eagles were running their infamous “tush push” play. Phillips responded to Kelce’s accusations emphatically in an article from Fox News.
“He is a well-respected guy around the league for whatever reason,” Phillips said. “Now he suddenly has a voice because he is on his brother’s podcast and what not, so he thinks he can use it. But the way he uses his voice, it doesn’t make any sense.”
“When you look at the ‘tush push,’ he dives at somebody’s knees every play and tries to roll them up,” the Bills player explained. “For him to speak on somebody being dirty, I don’t think he has any right or any means to call for a fine when he does a whole bunch of stuff. I think it’s crazy for him to even mention that.
“I’m 335 pounds. How am I going to stop regardless? How do I know that the ball wasn’t going? After I saw the ball move, I put my eyes on him and I’m going to go.”
As a member of the Cowboys, Phillips will have to face the Eagles at least twice in 2024. The Eagles will be without Kelce, but the rest of the team could still have it out for Phillips as a result of their clash in 2023.
