The Minnesota Vikings added depth to their running backs today with a familiar face. They traded a 2026 conditional sixth-round pick to the Houston Texans for Cam Akers. The Vikes also sent a 2026 conditional seventh-round pick to complete the trade. It’s Cam Akers‘ second time to Minnesota after he was traded there last season from the Los Angeles Rams.
Trade! The #Texans are sending RB Cam Akers to the #Vikings, sources say.

Not Cam Akers’ First Time In The North
Akers spent six games with the Vikings in 2023. While in Houston, Cam Akers rushed for 147 yards and a touchdown off 40 carries, but now that Joe Mixon and Dameon Pierce are healthy Akers’ opportunities are starting to dwindle. Akers can reunite with head coach Kevin O’Connell, who worked with him in Los Angeles and now aspires to have the 5-0 Vikings top the Super Bowl mark.
The arrival of Akers isn’t solely a reaction to Vikings lead back Aaron Jones being banged up with a hip injury. Cam Akers knows O’Connell’s offense and provides some much-needed depth to the Vikings RB corp, which is already thin after Aaron Jones. Akers helped get the Vikings rolling last year before he was hurt, rushing for 138 yards on 38 carries with a touchdown. Now, Akers and Ty Chandler will complete the RB depth for the Vikings.
Akers’ arrival brings an optimism of Super Bowl aspirations. As he was a member of the 2021 LA Rams who won the Super Bowl that year. Akers could be an important part of the Vikings’ bid to get back to the Super Bowl and win it for the first time in franchise history.
After running around from team to team, maybe Cam Akers has finally found his home in a familiar place with a familiar coach and system. It’s a match made for both, he should have the chance to thrive and the Vikings will have a solid option at RB as they continue their surprising run. SKOL!
