Before becoming the United States senator from Alabama, Tommy Tuberville coached football for 40 years, with notable tenures as head coach for the Ole Miss Rebels and the Auburn Tigers. When rumors surfaced about his departure from Ole Miss after the 1998 season, Tuberville once said, “They’ll have to carry me out of here in a pine box,” and moved to Auburn less than a week later. Tuberville spent ten seasons with the Tigers, including posting an undefeated season in 2004 behind the backfield tandem of Ronnie Brown and Carnell “Cadillac” Williams (honorable mention to Jason Campbell).
Auburn and Tuberville continued their success until hitting a roadblock in 2008, going 5-7, ultimately leading to the resignation of their one-time AP Coach of the Year. However, one must wonder where Auburn and Tuberville would be if they didn’t undertake a down year or if a strong recruiting class had been on the horizon. During a portion of the McCready and Siskey Podcast early this week, co-host Tyler Siskey spoke about how karma potentially derailed Tuberville’s electric run in the SEC in an epic story for the ages.
Former Auburn Football WR Tim Siskey: Shares Personal Story of Tommy Tuberville
Tommy Tuberville’s coaching career is well behind him, but that doesn’t mean stories about his escapades as a bench boss don’t continue to surface as he is well into his political profession. On Monday, the TikTok page for the McCready and Siskey Podcast shared a three-minute video of former Auburn football wideout turned college coach Tim Siskey sharing his experience with Tuberville. During Tuberville’s first offseason with Auburn, the head ball coach gave Siskey his release papers, even without prompting.

After calling Siskey into his office, Tuberville said, “Tyler, I signed six wide receivers yesterday. If you have any more aspirations of running out of that tunnel, it will be on the visiting sideline. Would you like your release?” Siskey’s now-former head coach handed him his already signed and printed release forms after the wideout agreed to leave the Tigers. However, the wide receiver had to stay at Auburn through the spring quarter due to eligibility reasons.
Siskey continued, saying that while waiting for the spring quarter to end, he picked up a returning starter from practice, only for them to learn about the player’s release on the drive home. Siskey lent the vehicle to his friend, and upon his return to the facility, the latter discovered that Tubervile had released him from his scholarship post-practice.
After playing, Siskey would move into coaching, joining his alma mater Troy before landing with Northwestern (La.) State and Arkansas State. However, his time with powerhouse high school St. Paul’s Episcopal brought his experience with Tuberville full circle.
A.J. McCarron and Mark Baron: Land with Alabama Football
Tyler Siskey spent four seasons as an assistant at St. Paul’s Episcopal School in Mobile, where they won the 2007 state 5A championship. The talent at St. Paul’s Episcopal School caught the eye of then-Auburn football head coach Tommy Tuberville. On a recruiting trip to St. Paul’s Episcopal, Tuberville finally ran into Siskey, the former player he once sent away without deliberation. During a one-on-one, the high school offensive coordinator and premier college coach relived their previous interaction, with Siskey seemingly holding a grudge.
Siskey claimed he would never tell a recruit to avoid a school but said, “If they ask me about you, I’m going to tell them the truth.” Tuberville did not land any ot. Paul’s Episcopal recruits, including future Alabama Crimson Tide superstars A.J. McCarron and Mark Barron. McCarron led Alabama to three BCS Championship victories, while Barron earned All-American honors.
“Senator Tommy Tuberville, it fits. He picked the right profession,” said Siskey near the end of the sound bite, seemingly taking a shot at the senator. Tuberville has served as the senator from Alabama since 2021, creating controversy for his objections to the 2020 U.S. presidential election and voting against creating an independent commission to investigate the Capitol attack the following year.

Well, apparently Tuberville inhaled the smoke from that fire because he sure hasn’t brought any decency with him to Congress.
He is Tommy dommerville to me. In congress he has not made one right logical decision.
He’s a sorry excuse for a person, much less a Senator. No wonder he’s a trump minion.
I never thought i would be for Tubervilles opponent in the republican primary for his senate seat. Mainly because hehad embarrassed the state as a congressman, but i sure wish he was in there now instead of this boot licking doofuss. Oh yes I’m an Auburn fan but not because of Tubberware.
But yet the good people from Alabama vote for him!!!
He’s also an embarrassment for the state of Alabama and the veterans. I would not share a fox hole with this man, y’all can’t trust him have your back. Lies, and more lies just as he did as a coach
Tuberville is an idiot. Bad for alabama and definitely bad for military.
Tommy Turdaville is a jackass of the first order. His nose is so big for a reason. It has to fit up Trumps fat ass. Auburn football will return to it’s former glory, when the stench of Turdaville, and Harsin finally dies out.
Tuberville is Puten’s fan. He won’t stand with with our soldiers or Ukraine or even with our or our country.
Rumour has it he skipped out on a table full of recruits in a diner after he got the offer to coach at Auburn, without saying a word about it.
I’ve also heard that.
