Tom Brady is getting some help in his bid to own part of the Las Vegas Raiders
After a successful NFL career, future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady wants to get into the ownership game and he has his eyes on the Las Vegas Raiders.
Brady’s plans to own a portion of the Raiders came to light a few years back and while nothing is official just yet, he’s taken some steps forward with that path. And now, he reportedly will be joined by a former teammate of his in that plan.
Per Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, Richard Seymour is planning to join forces with Tom Brady in an ownership stake in the Raiders. Here is what Florio wrote on the situation:
Future Hall of Famer Tom Brady apparently won’t be the only former Patriot to acquire a piece of the Las Vegas Raiders. A current Hall of Famer — and a Patriots player who finished his career with the Raiders — is on the brink of becoming an owner of the team, too.
Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Hall of Fame defensive lineman Richard Seymour is close to finalizing a deal to become an owner and limited partner of the Raiders.
…
Seymour, we’re told, will join forces with Brady. Together (and with their own partners) they would own 10.4 percent of the team.
The combination of Seymour and Brady is expected to resolve most of the concerns about Brady’s bid. Among other things, Mark Davis originally proposed giving Brady a steep discount over market value. That didn’t fly with the other owners.
Florio goes on to say that the proposed joint bid between Seymour and Brady would be presented in front of owners in October 2024. They would need twenty-four votes to earn the bid for an ownership stake, which doesn’t seen too far-fetched.
Seymour and Brady played eight seasons together in New England, winning three Super Bowls together. In 2009, Seymour was traded to the Raiders where he made two Pro Bowls with the franchise in four years. So he does have roots with the organization, making it a good fit.
Life after football for Tom Brady
When Tom Brady retired a few years back, it was known that he would have some involvement with football right away. Not only was he interested in owning part of the Raiders but he also expressed interest in being a commentator.
Fast forward to 2024 where Brady is set to make his debut as a color commentator for FOX’s top team, replacing Greg Olsen. Brady will debut his skills for the 2024 season hopefully finding success. And he’s already earning the backing of a former NFL star.
Here is what Shawne Merriman told FOX Digital about Brady:
“His ability to take you into a play mentally and articulate … people say things, and you can start envisioning [it] in your head,” Merriman said of the former New England Patriots star. “That’s what’s going to separate Tom Brady possibly from everyone else.
“And I’ve been on the short end of the stick with that, because I know how he analyzes the game. But his ability to articulate and have your mind track what he’s talking about, that’s how good he is. He may go down as one of the best to ever do it because he has so much knowledge of the game.
“But if you really, really look at Tom Brady and listen to him, he can articulate and make your brain track what he’s talking about. And that’s what’s going to separate him from everybody.”
It’s not an easy thing to make that jump from the field to the booth but Brady appears ready to try.
