The stadium has seen a lot of crazy and memorable games throughout the years and has seem millions of fans walk through the gates. Thousands of players both home and visiting have also played on the playing surface as well.
The first game ever played in the “Shoe” was on Oct. 7 1922 when the Buckeyes took on Ohio Wesleyan. The stadium has seen thirty six million fans come through the gates since and have hosted other events besides athletics. The stadium has also hosted many concerts throughout the years as well. 100 Years of History
Since The Shoe is Turing 100, there will be a celebration during the homecoming game against Rutgers on Oct. 1. The halftime celebration is one of the themes for home games this year. Throughout the semester, the library will have an exhibit called, “A Walk in Our Shoe: 100 Years of Ohio Stadium.” The exhibit will include the history of the stadium as well as historic uniforms and memorabilia from coaches. Anyone visiting the library can go through the exhibit and see all of the artifacts and history.
Fans who have been to the stadium over the years should feel like a part of history because they have kept the stadium alive. If people do not want to come to a stadium, then the stadium would be torn down. Credit should go to the workers who keep the stadium in top shape for games, concerts, and commencements. This season, Buckeyes players will give their best effort to make the 100 year anniversary special.
