Ohio State will have different themes for each game during the 2022 season. All of the eight home games will have a theme this fall. This might be the first time Ohio State has had themes for each home game of the season. Some of the themes involve wearing different colors of clothes for some games. Other games involve welcoming former teams and watching performances by a band. The exact reason why each game has a theme is unknown but it sure adds to the excitement for the season.
Celebrating 20 years plus 100!
The Sept. 3rd game against Notre Dame will have College Gameday on campus as well as welcome back the 2002 national championship team. This year marks twenty years since their national championship run. The next week on Sept. 10th against Arkansas State, the school will be celebrating new additions to the Athletics Hall of Fame. The next game on Sept. 17th will include a performance by the alumni marching band. At the end of September, the game against Wisconsin will feature a blackout where fans are asked to wear black.
When Ohio State plays Rutgers in October, there will be a celebration to celebrate 100 years of Ohio Stadium. On Oct 22nd against Iowa, the theme will be called, “Scarlet the Shoe,” where fans should wear scarlet and grey. The game on Nov. 12th against Indiana is the military appreciation day and the final home game against Michigan is senior day.
A reason why there are so many theme games is because the schedule is a little more unusual this year than most years. The whole month of September has home games meaning fans will get to watch their team perform every week. There are also two big celebrations occurring such as the twenty year anniversary of the 2002 team and the 100 year celebration of the stadium. The Buckeyes are favored to make a championship run and most of their big games are at home. This gives Buckeye fans a great season to look forward to!
