The #1 ranked Texas Longhorns and the #3 Ohio State Buckeyes will be facing each other on Saturday, August 29 with kickoff scheduled for NOON ET on FOX. Texas and Ohio State both faced each other in the college football playoff semifinals last season with the Buckeyes coming out on top.

The rematch will look totally different than the postseason game from a season ago. Arch Manning will be the starting quarterback for Texas instead of Quinn Ewers and Julian Sayin will be the starting quarterback for Ohio State instead of Will Howard. However, the head coaches remain the same with Steve Sarkisian leading the way for the Longhorns and Ryan Day leads the way for the Buckeyes. Is this game a big deal or not a big deal?
FOX Sports Analyst Believes Texas Longhorns and Ohio State Buckeyes Is Monster Game

Joel Klatt and Colin Cowherd of FOX Sports were talking about the upcoming 2025 college football season. Klatt asked Cowherd,
“He’ll certainly be more prepared and he’s going to be much better mentally. But in the view of the Texas-Ohio State game, how big of a game do you feel it is for the narrative that we keep talking about in college football about the power of the Big Ten and SEC?”
Well Cowherd responded about the Buckeyes and Longhorns upcoming matchup this weekend and said,
“I think it’s the biggest college football regular-season game in a decade. I mean, Oregon-Ohio State, we knew was going to be good, but there was not a Manning at quarterback. And Texas, I mean, Oregon’s a very lively brand, but it’s Texas, Manning and the Buckeyes off a natty. This is a prize fight. This is gigantic. So I think it’s a remarkable game.”
This is a big game, especially for a Week 1 matchup. No matter who wins this game, the loser of this game should be fine moving forward. It may not change much in the Top 25 rankings. Ohio State is a slight favorite at home against Texas, despite the Longhorns being ranked ahead of the Buckeyes.
However, there seems to be more questions about the Buckeyes roster entering the 2025 season than the Longhorns roster. There will be a lot more questions answered about both football programs after the game concludes on Saturday afternoon.
