Week 12 Packers Preview: Background
Packers lead series 28-17-0
The floundering Packers travel to Philadelphia to face the flourishing Eagles Sunday night. The Packers have won only one game out of their last seven while the Eagles have lost only one game in the same time frame. The Packers are fighting desperately to hang onto their chances of a playoff spot; they have a 6% chance at a shot at the playoffs. Christian Watson will be key to the Packers’ journey to the postseason. We will find out more come Sunday night if Green Bay still possesses the tenacity to keep themselves in the playoff race.
The Packers have been 4-2 against the Eagles with Aaron Rodgers as their quarterback. He’s thrown 12 touchdowns on 1,573 yards with 3 interceptions against Philadelphia’s defense. Prior to Rodgers becoming the starter, the Packers lost five in a row against the Eagles. The 1978-2000 seasons were fairly even; the Packers went 6-8 in that span. The early Packers were dominant against the Eagles; from 1933-1976 the Packers were 17-3 against Philadelphia. So far, the Packers are 1-2 against NFC East teams. The Eagles are 2-0 against NFC North teams.
Week 12 Packers Preview: What to Watch For
Packers’ Tenacity
There’s no need to sugarcoat it anymore; the 2022 Packers suck. At this point, it’s clear that there is a deficiency in personnel and coaching and some sprinkles of bad luck with injuries. The Packers need to reassert themselves as a team to be feared in the NFC. The Detroit Lions are showing more fight than the Packers currently. It’s shameful. The team is beaten and broken in body and spirit and it shows.
Victory has never been a stranger to LaFleur up until this year. Rodgers needs to show him and the rest of the team how to overcome midseason adversity to reach the playoffs. Remember R-E-L-A-X? Remember Run the Table?
If the Packers hope to keep their playoff hopes alive, they need to overcome their tangible shortcomings and dig deep within. They need to be tenacious. Matt LaFleur needs to fire his team up. See how the team’s energy feels on Sunday night. If they rally from their loss, they can put together a win against one of the top teams in the NFC. A win against the Eagles would go a long way in inspiring this team forward. If they don’t show the heart, well we are all witnessing what it looks like now.
Christian Watson
Christian Watson will be essential to the Packers’ roadmap to the playoffs. Watson spent the majority of the off-season recovering from knee surgery. He also struggled with different injuries throughout the season. Fans and critics alike were calling Watson a bust just a few weeks ago. Things turned around for the rookie quickly. He has accounted for five touchdowns over the last two games. The dynamic speedster has shown what he could do when fully healthy. The Packers hope he can stay healthy and keep up the production while they work to keep their playoff hopes alive.
