The Texas Longhorns maybe the most talked about team by the college football national media other than the Ohio State Buckeyes entering the 2025 college football season. Texas and Ohio State will meet each other in Week 1 on August 31, in Columbus, Ohio.

The Longhorns know who their starting quarterback will be for that game, and it will be Arch Manning. As for the Buckeyes, it is unknown who it will be. Head coach Steve Sarkisian is ready to embrace the Manning era after having Quinn Ewers as its starting quarterback for the last two seasons.
CBS Sports Has Quarterback Arch Manning As the Texas Longhorns Team MVP Entering the 2025 College Football Season

CBS Sports writer Will Backus created an MVP list for each potential Top 25 college football team entering the 2025 college football season. He had the Longhorns as the number one team in the country and also had Manning as the Longhorns MVP. This is no surprise by any means for Texas. Backus said,
“Who else could it be? One of the most ballyhooed recruits to ever step foot on a college campus, Manning finally gets the keys to Texas’ offense after spending a couple years behind Quinn Ewers. Manning got some extensive run last season when Ewers missed time due to an abdominal injury and flashed his tremendous potential by throwing for 939 yards and nine touchdowns. Unlike the other Mannings, this one has some wheels, adding an extra dimension to Texas’ offense that opponents have to account for this season. “
There is no doubt that Manning will be able to have a full season under his belt for Texas. He will be in the mix for the Heisman Trophy during the 2026 season. If he has a big 2026 year, there is a chance that Manning could be one of the top quarterbacks taken in the 2026 NFL Draft.
That is a while away to even think about, but Manning is looking to lead Texas to a national championship in 2025. Texas has not won it all since the 2005 season against the USC Trojans when Vince Young was the quarterback. Manning will no doubt make the offense even better for the Longhorns in 2025. The question will be, can he take them to the national championship game? That is something that Ewers was not able to accomplish as a two-year starter for Texas under Sarkisian.
