College football oddsmakers revealed the top likely names to take over the Texas A&M job. The Aggies announced they fired head coach Jimbo Fisher Sunday morning following an underwhelming six seasons where the team failed to make it to an SEC Championship game.
The Aggies paid big bucks, to the tune of $77 million, for the buyout to get Fisher out of College Station. But Fisher’s high salary isn’t expected to keep the school from going after prestigious coaches who will want to be paid a premium.

Former Aggies defensive coordinator Mike Elko, Oregon head coach Dan Lanning, Kansas head coach Lance Leipold, and Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin were among the most popular names considered by fans and pundits for the open job on Sunday.
College football oddsmakers reveal odds for next Texas A&M HC
Sports Line, a site that provides betting information, recently released odds on the Aggies’ next coach. Per Sports Line, UTSA’s head coach, Jeff Traylor, and Duke’s head coach, Elko, have the best odds of being named the next head coach of the program:
- Jeff Traylor +300
- Mike Elko +300
- Kalen DeBoer +500
- Dan Lanning +600
- Eli Drinkwitz +900
- Lance Leipold +1000
- Chris Klieman +1200
- PJ Fleck +1500
- Kliff Kingsbury +1700
- James Franklin +2000
- Lane Kiffin +2500
- Mike Norvell +3000
- Urban Meyer +5000
- Deion Sanders +5000
Traylor would be a surprise for the Aggies to poach from UTSA. He’s not a candidate with former success at a blue-chip school. Kiffin, who ESPN’s Pete Thamel named as a logical option for the Aggies, is at +2500 odds to replace Fisher. Those seem like low odds for Kiffin.
Urban Meyer and Deion Sanders also make the odds list. But they’re moonshots at this point. It would be interesting to see if Meyer would take the Aggies’ job as a chance to get back into his rivalry with Alabama’s Nick Saban as to who is the best head coach of the modern era.
After all, Kirby Smart could quickly replace Meyer or Saban’s claim for that title.
