The Tennessee Titans were looking to sign a defensive lineman in free agency after Denico Autry signed a contract with the Houston Texans.

The team was able to find a starting-caliber player earlier today.

According to Jason McCourty of NFL Network, Tennessee signed Sebastian Joseph-Day to a one-year, $4 million contract.

Here’s a quick review of his NFL career and a look at their depth at the defensive line position.

Los Angeles drafted Joseph-Day in the 6th round, 195th overall of the 2018 NFL Draft.

Joseph-Day was inactive for every game in his rookie season.

Joseph-Day played in 16 games, starting 15 in his second season, and had 44 tackles, five for a loss, five QB hits, two sacks, and one pass deflection.

Joseph-Day played in 16 games, starting 16 in his third season, and had 55 tackles, one for a loss, four QB hits, one sack, three pass deflections, and one forced fumble. He also had eight tackles in two playoff games.

Joseph-Day played in seven games, starting seven in his fourth season, and had 38 tackles, three for a loss, five QB hits, and three sacks. He tore his pectoral and missed the rest of the regular season and three playoff games, but managed to play in the Super Bowl and didn’t record a statistic.

He did not have to travel far to his new team.

Los Angeles signed Joseph-Day to a 3-year, $24 million contract during the 2022 offseason.

Joseph-Day played in 16 games, starting 16 in his fifth season, and had 56 tackles, nine for a loss, six quarterback hits, two sacks, one interception, one pass deflection, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and one safety. He also had three tackles, one QB hit, 0.5 sacks, and one pass deflection in the Wild Card.

Joseph-Day played in 14 games, starting 14 with Los Angeles in his sixth season, and had 31 tackles, three for a loss, 11 QB hits, and three sacks. Los Angeles released him on December 22.

The team explained why they cut him.

“It was a [situation] where myself and [interim general manager] JoJo [Wooden], just in talking really, the easiest way to say is that it was just in the best interest for the team. Other stuff I’d rather just keep in-house, but we wish him the best. I hope he does well in San Francisco and that everybody moves on.”

San Francisco signed Joseph-Day to a one-year deal.

Joseph-Day played in two games with San Francisco in his sixth season and had five tackles. He also had three tackles in three playoff games.

The Tennessee Titans defensive line is inexperienced outside of two players

Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons (98) prepares to block Carolina Panthers cornerback Donte Jackson (26) during their game at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tenn., Sunday, Nov. 26, 2023.

Tennessee’s depth outside of Sebastian Joseph-Day and Jeffery Simmons is inexperienced. The other players under contract include Keondre Coburn (will be his second season), TK McLendon Jr. (will be his second season, Quinton Bohanna (will be his fourth season), and Shakel Brown (will be his second season).

Don’t be surprised if Tennessee adds a few more defensive linemen in the offseason.
