While the Kansas City Chiefs are off to a 3-0 start as the defending Super Bowl Champions, many fans are concerned with star tight end Travis Kelce’s lack of production.
The Chiefs have found ways to win with minimal help from Kelce, but some fans and analysts think the massive change in Kelce’s life that came about when he started dating pop star Taylor Swift has resulted in poor play on the field.
Analyst Todd McShay blames Taylor Swift and partying for Travis Kelce’s slow start
Kelce isn’t just off to a slow start in 2024, he s statistically playing the worst football of his entire career. Kelce’s eight receptions for 69 yards and zero touchdowns are all the worst numbers in any three weeks of Kelce’s career since 2013, a year in which Kelce only played in one game.
Former ESPN analyst Todd McShay discussed the unusual dry spell from Kelce on “The Ryen Russillo Podcast.” McShay claimed Kelce looks out of shape because of his relationship with Swift which has led to a life of “jet-setting” and “partying all offseason.”
“Are we not allowed to say that he’s out of shape?” McShay said bluntly on the show. “That he’s been partying all offseason? That he’s been jet-setting around with the most famous person probably in the entire world? That he’s drinking — going to the U.S. Open and he’s got cocktails?”
Some fans agree with McShay, saying that the new life Kelce is living has caused him to slow down on the field. Others think Kelce is just getting to the age where he is starting to fade, something that happens to every NFL star regardless of who their girlfriend is.
Lastly, plenty of fans have seen this movie before and are convinced that Kelce, and the rest of the 3-0 Chiefs that have managed to scoot by in each of their three wins, will turn it on come playoff time like they always do.
He seems out of sorts. But he’ll turn it on when it matters. Dammit.

Kelce will have a massive opportunity to bounce back when the Chiefs take on the battered and bruised division rival Los Angeles Chargers in week four. The Chargers are down many key players due to injury.
Most importantly, safety Derwin James will be serving a one-game suspension for hits that the NFL doesn’t want in the game. The suspension was upheld, and the Chargers will have to do without their greatest weapon against Kelce.
