Taylor Swift has made a lot of headlines related to football this season. Once her intimate relationship with Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce went public, fans and media had a field day with it. However, it has been met with controversy.
NFL fans and media members alike have not been happy about all of the Taylor Swift coverage. This article alone could be considered controversial by that standard. With all of that said, Swift herself fired back about this sentiment.
Taylor Swift Takes Shot at Unhappy Football Fans
Swift has received a lot of attention at every game she has shown up for this year. Despite being far up in the suites at some stadiums, members of the media have been able to find her. Swift even admitted that she does not know where the cameras are at these football stadiums when she is in the suites.
Whether she is aware of where the cameras are or not, she seems to be aware of the negative attention being brought on her by football fans. This is so much the case that she addressed it the other day:
“I’m just there to support Travis,” she said. “I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads.”
Her presence in the football world has gone viral this season. Earlier this year, it was at such a point where people brought signs to stadiums wondering if she was there. On top of this, fans of opposing teams wore “Swiftie” jerseys to stadiums.

Some fans have come out and supported her after this quote was revealed. One fan had this to say:
“I’M ACTUALLY SPEECHLESS… LIKE SHE JUST ENDED THEM HARD OMG.”
NFL Fans and Media Backlash
While some Swifties believe that Swift ended people whose “opinions don’t matter”, the NFL fan and media backlash has been apparent. Earlier this season, Swift showed up at MetLife Stadium for the Kansas City Chiefs game against the New York Jets. The New York Giants were playing a home game the next night in the stadium.
This writer was in attendance for that home game between the New York Giants and Seattle Seahawks. At one point, a Taylor Swift promotional ad showed up on the scoreboard during that game. It was met with loud boos throughout the stadium.
However, it is not just football fans who thought the Swift coverage was getting to be too much. Even legendary broadcaster Al Michaels tried his best to avoid discussing her when he called the Kansas City Chiefs game against the Denver Broncos.

Ari Meirov, who covers the NFL for The 33rd Team, even chimed in when the NFL made Taylor Swift their cover photo on social media:
“At some point, this is just a little ridiculous.”
The NFL ended up removing Swift as their cover photo on social media shortly after that. So much for opinions not mattering, right?
Can Football Fans and Swifties Get Along?
It is clear that the NFL is trying to balance both sides of this carefully. There is no denying that Swift has brought ratings for the NFL. That means attracting fans such as Swifties who may not normally watch football.
However, there seems to be a clear division on both sides. Some football fans do not want Swift or her fans taking up coverage. Meanwhile, Swifties seem to be taking shots at football fans who have a problem with it.
Is there room for both? As long as the Swift and Kelce relationship continues, there may not be a choice.
