The Tampa Bay Buccaneers find themselves in a surprising position after making the NFC Divisional Round after bringing Baker Mayfield over to the QB spot. What was supposed to be a transitional year became a sudden championship window.
However, they will be the first to know that they cannot simply rest on their laurels. Their rivals in the NFC South will be looking to make the most of the division’s weakened state to make a sudden playoff push. Making the right moves in the offseason will help them keep their control over the division.
Pewter Report’s Scott Reynolds makes a detailed piece that looks into what the Bucs will likely do in the 2024 offseason, and he has great news for fans who want Baker Mayfield to stay.
Baker Mayfield and Mike Evans stay with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for big money
The most encouraging statement from Reynold’s statement is that both Mayfield and Evans will be staying with the team to prolong their Super Bowl window by at least two years.
He predicts that Mayfield will be signing for a whopping three-year, $99-million contract that allows the Bucs to make the most of Mayfield while allowing him to explore his options at 32.
Meanwhile, Evans is extending his stint as a Buc after signing a two-year, $41 million deal. His cap charge will be at around $5.5 million, and this will allow him to retire a Buc if he decides to call it a day at 33 years old.
Carlton Davis III headlines potential Bucs trades
Carlton Davis III was a disappointing defensive playmaker last season for Tampa Bay, but there are teams that are interested in his services. He will likely be the first one out the window if they Bucs find his replacement in the draft.
Other Buccaneers who will likely be shipped off to other NFL teams in the offseason include Joe Tyron-Shoyinka and Robert Hainsey.
Justin Simmons headlines tentative Tampa Bay acquisitions
Reynolds predicts they’ll be able to bring Justin Simmons in for two years, $32 million. The former Denver Bronco will demand plenty of attention due to his talent, and they’ll be able to provide him with a chance to compete for a Super Bowl.
Other players he predicts will sign with the Bucs are Aaron Brewer, Gerald Everett, and Andrew Van Ginkel.
Duke’s Graham Barton will lead Tampa Bay’s 2024 rookie class
Reynolds believes the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will choose Graham Barton as their first-round draft pick. He explains his logic on why the Bucs would select an OL as their first choice:
Jason Licht has made a habit of drafting athletic college left tackles and moving them inside. He’s done that successfully with Ali Marpet, Alex Cappa and Cody Mauch. I’ll continue that strategy with the selection of Barton, who played at center during his freshman year and then had three outstanding seasons at left tackle at Duke.
Other draft picks Reynolds thinks the Bucs will make are Alabama OLB Chris Braswell, South Carolina WR Xavier, Legette, and Kentucky WR Malachi Corley among others.
