Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce has nothing but respect and admiration for Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield.
Kelce revealed as much on Sunday after Mayfield put on a show in the Pro Bowl Games.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Baker Mayfield Dominate in Pro Bowl
Mayfield won the Offensive MVP honor in the annual Pro Bowl. His NFC team won the overall competition, though the AFC actually outscored their side in the game itself.
But since the NFC dominated in the skills competition, they were able to come away with the big win with a 64-59 score. Mayfield himself topped the Precision Passer Award during the Pro Bowl Games.
On the defensive end, New Orleans Saints linebacker Demario Davis won the Defensive MVP honor.
It’s certainly an amazing honor for Mayfield, who is playing in his first Pro Bowl. Not to mention that he came in as a replacement for Dak Prescott.
In the end, Mayfield proved he’s a star and belongs among the league’s elites.
Jason Kelce Showers Baker Mayfield With Love
Jason Kelce, who also played a big role in the NFC’s Pro Bowl win, didn’t hide his amazement for Baker Mayfield, not only for the work he put in during the competition but also throughout the 2023 season and his career.
Many were ready to label Mayfield a bust when he struggled early on in his career after being picked no. 1 overall by the Cleveland Browns in 2018. Despite having stints with the Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Rams, he never really thrived.
With the Buccaneers, though, things turned positively for him. Mayfield undoubtedly had the best season of his career both numbers and accomplishments wise. He tallied 4044 yards and 28 touchdowns on 64.3 percent completion rate, fueling Tampa Bay en route to the divisional round of the playoffs.
No one expected the Buccaneers to compete immediate, with Mayfield considered but a bridge QB. Now, he is expected to be the quarterback of the franchise.
With that, Kelce couldn’t be prouder of Mayfield.
“I’ve always had tremendous respect for Baker. He’s a fighter, he’s a guy that wears his heart on his sleeve,” Kelce said of Mayfield after the Pro Bowl, per Adam Slivon of Pewter Report.
Mayfield definitely deserves the praise he’s getting. He worked for it, and everything is now paying off. Here’s hoping that Mayfield will be able to continue to grow and silence those who doubted him.
Sure enough, Kelce is there as one of his big fans.
