Baker Mayfield is enjoying life after redeeming his name as a quarterback with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After a season that saw him establish himself as one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL, he’s now taking his time in deciding where to go next.
He’s having fun as a Pro Bowler, participating in the festivities ahead of the season. As a show of his charm, he had a funny quip about his last game of the season.
Baker Mayfield jokes about Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ playoff loss
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback participated in the Skills Challenge and had a great time with the fans. During one of his many media engagements, he talked about his team’s loss to the Detroit Lions in the divisional rounds.
The Spun’s Matt Hladik wrote about the hilarious moment:
Mayfield showed off his sense of humor during tonight’s Skills Showdown, when ESPN’s Ryan Clark asked him about competing in the event without having much time to practice.
“The last pass I threw was to Derrick Barnes in Detroit,” Mayfield joked, referring to his game-ending interception against the Detroit Lions in the NFC Divisional Round.
It was a nice sight to see the first overall pick of the 2018 Draft have some fun after completely defying expectations this season. Through the two playoff games the Bucs had, he threw for 686 passing yards and six TDs.
His performance in the regular season was equally impressive: He had 4044 passing yards and 28 TDs while only throwing 10 picks in every game of the season.
Mayfield, Buccaneers want to extend partnership
After such a season, it’s understandable that the Bucs would want to keep Mayfield with the team in the foreseeable future.
Fortunately for them, Mayfield is also looking forward to staying with the Bucs. Andrew Gould reported that the Oklahoma product is also interested in extending his stay with the team.
However, they would need to sort out the issue as soon as possible as Mike Evans is another priority target for the organization. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers must convince Mayfield that finding an agreement would be critical in keeping Evans with the team.
