At one point during Sunday’s Super Bowl LVIII showdown, it seemed like the Kansas City Chiefs were set to concede the title to the San Francisco 49ers. The Niners were up 10-0 in the second quarter and were looking like they had a great opportunity to bring home the Lombardi trophy after three long decades.
The Chiefs, however, had other plans.
Super Bowl LVIII: Patrick Mahomes’ Savage Message After Comeback Win Vs. Niners
The Niners came into the game as the favorites to win the title. During certain stretches, it did look like Brock Purdy and Co. were going to come home victorious. It just wasn’t to be.
This was thanks in large part to another massive performance by now-three-time Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs superstar quarterback went 34-of-46 on his passes for 333 yards. He logged just one touchdown, but it turned out to be the title-winning TD pass in overtime to Mecole Hardman.
Mahomes was asked after the game about Kansas City entering the game as underdogs — which also happened to be the case for the Chiefs’ two playoff games before Sunday night. The 28-year-old responded with a savage mic-drop comment:
“Just know the Kansas City Chiefs are never underdogs. Just know that,” Mahomes said.
"Just know the @Chiefs are never underdogs. Just know that."

He’s not wrong. I mean, who are we to argue against Mahomes after seeing the Chiefs win three straight games in the postseason despite having the underdog tag? This obviously means nothing to Mahomes and the rest of the Kansas City squad, and he just wants the rest of the league to know about it.
Until they are proven otherwise and dethroned, the Chiefs are still the NFL’s top dogs.
