Sherrone Moore is having one of the wildest offseasons for a first-year head coach, and there is a chance he might not make it to the new year, still wearing the maize and blue.
On Sunday, ESPN’s Dan Murphy and Pete Thamel published an article stating that Sherrone Moore is one of seven members from the 2023 football program accused of violating NCAA rules. The article also states, “Moore could face a show-cause penalty and possibly a suspension for allegedly deleting a thread of 52 text messages with former Michigan staffer Connor Stalions in October 2023 on the same day that media reports revealed Stalions was leading an effort to capture the playcalling signals of future opponents.”
Connor Stalions was the Michigan staffer in charge of the sign-stealing scandal and supposedly worked alone. Nobody else on the Michigan staff knew what was happening, but that is not true since Moore deleted evidence that traces back to Stalions.
Stalions had to work with Moore somehow, which is why the new Michigan head coach deleted all the evidence between the two parties.
Moore has yet to be punished for anything, even though he played a role in the cheating scandal, and he has actually done great so far. He got to be the interim head coach last season when Jim Harbaugh was suspended by the Big Ten and then got the permanent head coaching job when Harbaugh left for the NFL, but it seems like Moore can’t run and hide any longer.
Sherrone Moore Needs To Step Down At Michigan
The best thing for the Wolverines and the program moving forward is for Sherrone Moore to step down as the head coach and try to clear Michigan’s image.
All everyone associates Michigan with these days is how they cheated for their straight threes. Jim Harbaugh’s leaving helped the school’s image get a little better, but now, with all the news that came out about Moore deleting evidence that shows he was in on the sign stealing, the program looks worse than it has ever had before.
There is a chance that Moore played a more significant role in the cheating scandal than Harbaugh because he was the offensive coordinator and needed to know the opposing team’s defensive signals, which is why he texted Stalions.
Right now, Michigan is just the team that cheats, and as long as Moore is the head coach of the program, that is what their image will be. It’s best to let him go and try to build themselves back up as the true university that they used to be before they started cheating.
