Shedeur Sanders has been the talk of the town in the last few weeks, culminating in the 2025 NFL draft when he was selected by the Cleveland Browns as the 144th pick in the fifth round. All the hate toward Sanders has prompted a certain group of social media users to draw similarities between the young quarterback and Colin Kaepernick.
More than his stellar NFL career, Colin Kaepernick is known for his activism on the field. The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback chose to kneel during the national anthem as a way of protesting against racial injustice in the country. As a result of his activism, Kaepernick’s contract was not extended by the team and he has not played a game since then. Still, many consider Kaepernick to be a hero among the masses for his activism.
“To my colleagues who are making this a cause, you are embarrassing yourselves. You are playing yourselves. Even if part of why he fell is that people didn’t like him, he was going for a job where being liked is part of the deal. They did it wrong. That’s all it comes down to. They did it wrong. There are criticisms to be made of Colin Kaepernick, but he literally gave it all up in the name of a cause that was bigger than him. The only cause Shedeur Sanders has is himself,” Jones said. “Don’t you motherf–king dare act like those two things are the same. Do not. If your argument is, ‘They wanted to show this outspoken black man his place,’ No. 1, let us stop acting like outspoken and obnoxious are perfect synonyms. They are not.” Bomani Jones, sports journalist, expressed his feelings about people comparing Sanders and Kaepernick.
Shedeur Sanders was initially expected to be named in the second or third rounds of the 2025 NFL draft. However, it was not until the fifth round that Sanders was finally selected by the Browns. The reason for Sanders’ draft stock falling so low was mainly blamed on his ‘arrogant and brash’ attitude in the pre-draft process.

Shedeur Sanders Will Not Be Cleveland’s Starting QB As Per Former HC
Shedeur Sanders is being predicted to become Cleveland’s next starting quarterback by many NFL fans. However, former head coach, Eric Mangini, recently remarked that Sanders will need to earn his spot in the team before such a decision is made.

In a video of Sanders in the locker room shared on social media, it is clear that there is plenty of tension between Deion Sanders’ youngest son and the rest of the players. Some of the players could be seen giving Sanders the cold shoulder, so the young QB will need to go through a challenging time in the team before being named QB1.
