The Seattle Seahawks and other teams around the NFL have just begun their training camps. However, one team recently found out that one of their running backs was going to retire. Who is it and what team is he on? Read below to find out.

According to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team, former Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny has announced his retirement. This comes as a slight surprise for two reasons. He has only been in the NFL for six seasons, and he is just 28 years old.

Penny is most known for the time he spent on the Seattle Seahawks. That is because he spent five of his six seasons in the NFL with Seattle.

He was quite an efficient running back during his time with the Seahawks. So, what did he do? Penny had nearly 2,000 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns in his five seasons with the Seahawks. Penny played 42 games in this stretch.

Unfortunately, Penny did not see much playing time during the last two years of his career. He was on the field for just eight games in that stretch. Penny also had just 379 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns during this time. An important note is that he spent his 2023 season with the Philadelphia Eagles.

This year, Penny was added to the Carolina Panthers’ roster. However, due to his sudden retirement announcement, he will not end up playing a snap for this team.

    Moving Forward

So, what will happen now around the NFL after this announcement? Well, Seahawks fans will likely look back on Penny’s career and have some fond memories of his tenure with the team.

However, fans of the Philadelphia Eagles and Carolina Panthers may look back on him differently. That is because Penny played just three games with the Eagles and only had 33 rushing yards. He did not have a single rushing touchdown with the team either.

As for the Panthers, they could have used a veteran running back on their roster. That is because QB Bryce Young had a rough rookie season, and arguably needs some pressure taken off of him this time around. Now, the Panthers are going to have to find another skill player to help Young.
