The Seattle Seahawks are going into the 2024 NFL Season with a bit of a question-mark as far as their expectations go. Could Geno Smith ever actually lead them to a Super Bowl? Is their offensive line and defense good enough to compete with the best of the best?
While those questions remain, one thing is certain: Seattle has one of the best receiving corps In the NFL. But for how long?

According to NFL Journalist Michael Baca:
The Seahawks are set to enter this upcoming season with a wide receiving corps that looks largely unchanged on paper, but the second-year growth of Jaxon Smith-Njigba is expected to heighten Seattle’s passing attack in 2024.
“He’s a guy that we can focus our offense around, along with other guys,” head coach Mike Macdonald said of Smith-Njigba this week, via ESPN’s Brady Henderson. “Tyler Lockett is still a great player. DK Metcalf, phenomenal player. The runners, Noah Fant. But he’s definitely going to be a massive piece of what we’re trying to do offensively.”
Smith-Njigba produced 63 receptions for 628 yards and four touchdowns during a rookie season that saw adversity out of the gate. The first-round pick suffered a fractured wrist in his second preseason game, but still managed to return in time for the season opener and went on to appear in every game in 2023.
Admitting this week it took a “couple games” to get comfortable following the injury, Smith-Njigba saw parallels of his transition into the NFL to that of his freshman year at Ohio State.
After all, it was his sophomore season that showcased his true NFL potential when posting 1,606 receiving yards (95 receptions; nine TDs) as a slot WR alongside fellow eventual first-round picks Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave.

Metcalf is currently signed through the 2025 season. His cap hits for the next two seasons are as follows:
- 2024: $24.5 Million
- 2025: $29.5 Million
If Seattle doesn’t deem it necessary to pay Metcalf $30 million in 2025 when they have a #1 WR in Smith-Njigba, could they move on from him?
The Steelers have contacted multiple teams in search of a top receiver, according to Benjamin Allbright of KOA Radio in Colorado. The Seattle Seahawks’ DK Metcalf, the San Francisco 49ers’ Brandon Aiyuk, and the Denver Broncos’ Courtland Sutton are reportedly among those involved.
Even if nothing came to fruition (yet) teams are reaching out about DK’s availability. If Seattle doesn’t find themselves in a position to win in the very near future, getting what they can out of their 26-year-old wide receiver may not be a bad option.
