The San Francisco 49ers have given many players massive contract extensions, making them among the highest-paid players (per APY) at their respective positions.
Christian McCaffrey recently signed a 2-year, $38 million extension and is the highest-paid RB. George Kittle signed a 5-year, $75 million extension in 2020 and is the 4th-highest-paid TE. “You see Trent Williams there at left tackle, so he’s got three years left on his contract,” Fowler reported Saturday on SportsCenter. “But there are whispers around some in the industry that he might want a new deal eventually. He’s got the three years left. He’s due $22 million in cash, but he is the best left tackle in the game still. 35 years old, so that could be a bit of an issue, but playing at a high level. 49ers might have to address that eventually.”
Despite being 35 years old, Williams hasn’t slowed down.

“The best left tackle in football showed no signs of slowing down this past season, dominating once again for the 49ers,” PFF’s Sam Monson wrote. “He didn’t give up a single sack all year, including the playoffs, and his 92.5 PFF run-blocking grade was the second-best mark among tackles.”
Will the 49ers adjust Williams’ contract before the 2024 season?
