After seeing Christian McCaffrey’s heroics in Sunday’s convincing 45-29 victory over the Arizona Cardinals, quarterback Brock Purdy conceded that CMC should be the San Francisco 49ers’ MVP.
Purdy himself is widely considered one of the favorites to bag the coveted individual award at the end of the season, but even the young QB recognizes how important McCaffrey is for the Niners.
San Francisco 49ers Repeat as NFC West Champs
For CMC, however, what matters the most is the win. After logging their 11th victory of the campaign (and their sixth straight), the 49ers were able to clinch the NFC West title for the second year running.
McCaffrey sounded off on his team’s impressive achievement after the game:
“Winning the division is very important. It’s a big step for us,” McCaffrey said, via Briana McDonald of the team website. “Everybody knows where we want to be and we know that each week you have to bring your best ball, we’re going to get everyone’s best shot, so the standards got to continue to rise.”
Kyle Shanahan Vocal on What CMC Brings to the Table
San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan also sang McCaffrey’s praises after another outstanding performance from the All-Pro RB. The Niners shot-caller just had to emphasize how much value CMC brings to the table for the team:
“It means so much, how good of a football player he is… Everyone sees it, when he touches the ball, when he doesn’t have the ball, when he’s blocking, when he’s just carrying out his fakes, everything,” Shanahan said. “The type of guy he’s been and the way he prepares, how well he takes care of his body throughout the entire offseason and every single day. He’s as committed to his job as any person I’ve ever been around and he’s also one of the best players I’ve ever been around.”
I see no lies here.
At the end of the day, however, even McCaffrey himself will admit that this will all be for nothing unless the Niners are able to bring home the big prize at the end of the season.
