The San Francisco 49ers front office will have their work cut out for them in the offseason. Change will be inevitable within the squad following their heartbreaking loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl. The Niners will likely want to bring in some fresh faces ahead of the new campaign, which also means that some players could be on their way out.
One man who could find himself on the outside looking in is fullback Kyle Juszczyk.
Should San Francisco 49ers Cut Kyle Juszczyk?
Rohan Chakravarthi of Niners Nation has conjured up a list of potential cut candidates for San Francisco now that they’re facing a pivotal offseason. This team will likely need to free up cap space with a keen eye on next month’s free agency.
Chakravarthi argues that Juszczyk is the “boldest option” for the 49ers in terms of potential summer casualties.
Juszczyk just completed the third season of his five-year deal worth $27 million. However, his contract was structured in such a way that the guaranteed money was allocated in the first three years, thereby potentially giving the Niners a way out of this deal.
“Now, the 49ers could move off Juszczyk and save $4.91 million in cap space, which could be crucial for other moves in free agency.
“Facing crucial salary-cap decisions this offseason, as the 49ers will have some needs in free agency, while also needing to account for extra money via the draft with their first and second-round pick, saving the five million would be a realistic choice for San Francisco,” Chakravarthi wrote.
While Juszczyk may have established himself as an important member of the team — he’s been in San Francisco throughout Kyle Shanahan’s tenure — the fact that he will deliver a significant cap hit this offseason could mean that the Niners will seriously consider offloading the veteran.
