The San Francisco 49ers failed to win the Super Bowl on Sunday but they had defensive tackle Javon Hargrave dealing with an injury, according to general manager John Lynch. He told reporters on Tuesday that Hargrave suffered a torn thumb ligament but did not specify when the injury happened or if he will require surgery to repair it.
Javon Hargrave had a solid season as during the regular season he posted 44 total tackles (25 solo, 19 assisted) with seven sacks and a pair of pass deflections. He also stepped up in the postseason as he recorded 10 total tackles (four solo, six assisted) with a sack and a forced fumble.
He will be an interesting player to watch as the San Francisco 49ers have a potential out after next season as he will have his base salary significantly rise in 2025.
Can the San Francisco 49ers get back to the Super Bowl next season?
The San Francisco 49ers have a lot of intriguing free agents, specifically on the defensive line. With players like Chase Young, Javon Kinlaw, Clelin Ferrell and Sebastian Joseph all unrestricted free agents now, this will be something to keep in mind going forward for the future of the 49ers.
The 49ers still have a majority of the entire offensive starters returning and there really is not a NFC team that makes sense to take that next step. The real contenders seem to be the Detroit Lions and the Green Bay Packers. The Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys could be threats depending on their offseason situations.
The 49ers entered the offseason as the overall favorites and still do not have to pay Brock Purdy for another offseason so expect them to find their way back to the Super Bowl.
