The San Francisco 49ers seem to manufacture playmakers.
No Christian McCaffrey at running back, enter former undrafted free agent Jordan Mason and his 447 rushing yards with three touchdowns through four games to the rescue.
Meanwhile, Deebo Samuel’s hamstring injury opened the door for an even bigger breakout at wide receiver.
Jauan Jennings Emerging as San Francisco 49ers’ Secret Star
In Samuel’s absence, Jauan Jennings has been a revelation for the 49ers at receiver. So far this season, Jennings has caught 21 passes for 364 yards with three touchdown catches while proving he is capable of carving out a niche amid not only a crowded receiving corps but on a prolific offense.
Jennings has been so impressive, that Pro Football Focus includes the wide receiver on the outlet’s First Quarter All-Pro Team.
“Jennings has been the surprise standout at wide receiver this season,” Gordon McGuinness writes for PFF. “Leading all receivers with an average of 3.50 yards per route run through four weeks. His 364 yards rank fourth in the league, and he could be as high as second if not for two drops.”
Not only. has Jennings shown he can be a productive contributor, he’s also gaining 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy’s trust.
According to PFF, Purdy has a nearly perfect 155.8 passer rating when targeting Jennings, who is averaging 17.3 yards per reception so far this season.
Jennings is carving out a niche in San Francisco to the point he should have a role even once Samuel gets back on the field and healthy.
