In a bit of a bad news for the San Francisco 49ers, tight end George Kittle appeared on their injury report in the build-up to Super Bowl 58.
The good news is that Kittle’s injury doesn’t seem to be serious. Nonetheless, any injury at this point of the year will worry anyone, especially since the big game is just around the corner.
George Kittle’s Injury Status for San Francisco 49ers
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed that Kittle is dealing with a toe injury, along with cornerback Ambry Thomas who is nursing an ankle issue. As a result, Kittle and Thomas will be day-to-day as they recover from their health setbacks.
Aside from the two, however, the rest of the 49ers who played during Sunday’s win over the Detroit Lions are healthy, per Nick Wagoner of ESPN.
“49ers CB Ambry Thomas has an ankle injury. TE George Kittle has a toe issue. Both will be day to day as we head toward Super Bowl LVIII, according to Kyle Shanahan. Niners otherwise made it out of Sunday night’s game healthy,” Wagoner reported.
While Kittle’s health status is a bit concerning, the 49ers should be optimistic since the Super Bowl won’t happen until February 11. With that said, there’s still plenty of time for the star tight end to rest and get to 100 percent health before they take on the Kansas City Chiefs.
George Kittle’s Big Season With San Francisco 49ers
For what it’s worth, it’s not surprising why some fans would be worried after hearing George Kittle’s injury status. After all, he’s an important piece for the team, and it’ll be problematic if he’s not at full health come the Super Bowl.
Kittle finished the 2023 regular season with 65 receptions for 1020 yards and six touchdowns. He leads all tight ends in receiving yards, allowing him to make his second All-Pro selection.
The 30-year-old vet was huge in the divisional round, tallying four receptions for 81 yards and one TD to help the Niners take the 24-21 win over the Green Bay Packers.
While he took a step back in the NFC Championship against the Detroit Lions–recording just two receptions for 27 yards–his presence is really important if they want to take down the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 58.
For now, there’s nothing to be worried about since Kittle has plenty of time to recover. Hopefully, there will be more positive news about his health as the team continue their preparation for their Las Vegas trip.
