Plenty of questions surround the San Francisco 49ers after they lost another Super Bowl victory to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Despite being considered the better team on paper with players like George Kittle and Christian McCaffrey on the roster, the team failed to stop Patrick Mahomes from establishing the Chiefs dynasty.
One of the biggest talking points for Niners fans is during one of the game’s more crucial moments, when the tight end seemed out of it and made one of the biggest blunders of the game.
George Kittle wasn’t paying attention during costly San Francisco 49ers TO
The two-time All-Pro didn’t show the awareness that earned him his accolades during one of the game’s biggest turning points when Christian McCaffrey fumbled the ball in his vicinity.
It was shown during the Super Bowl LVIII recap that it was his battle with George Karlaftis III in the trenches that took his attention away from the play and cost the team what could have been the points that they needed to secure the Lombardi.

It is clear during the encounter that the Iowa product was feeling himself during their exchange. Karlaftis, who has an impressive 10.5 sacks and 29 solo tackles during the 2023 regular season, is one of the league’s best defensive ends. For him to stop such an unstoppable force is a testament to his skills.
However, his lack of awareness during the overall play cost him and his team the drive and—ultimately—the game. It’s during these critical moments that winners are decided, and Kittle’s failure to pay attention during the fumble will be something that San Francisco 49ers fans will be wondering about for weeks if not years.
What makes things worse was that Kittle wasn’t even a factor on the offense. The TE was targeted thrice for an abysmal four yards.
If there’s any consolation for the San Francisco 49ers, Kittle will not let such a blunder happen again. He’s way too good of a player to let this happen twice. However, whether they make the Super Bowl is another question in and of itself.
