Being a star for an NFL team like the San Francisco 49ers comes with its blessings. Aside from the money, being recognized and loved for being good at football is a privilege not many will get to experience in their lifetime.
However, it also comes with its disadvantages. If you mess up long after you’ve retired from the game, there’s no way everyone will remain in the dark about your predicament. This is exactly what is happening to Tim McKyer after being involved in a crime in Florida.
Former San Francisco 49ers Star Tim McKyer in bars for multiple hit-and-run charges
Chris Rosvoglou of The Spun reported that the former San Francisco 49ers DB was brought to prison for fleeing the scene where he crashed into multiple vehicles:
McKyer, 60, was booked into Palm Beach County Jail on five counts of “leaving the scene of a crash involving damage to property.”
According to court records, McKyer is being accused of crashing his car into five parked vehicles at a condo complex in Riviera Beach. The officer at the scene claims they “detected the odor of an unknown alcoholic beverage” from McKyer’s breath.
While the officer at the scene claimed that the three-time Super Bowl winner smelled like alcohol, there wasn’t any mention of a breathalyzer or sobriety test being done on him. If he is found guilty of these charges,
If McKyer is found guilty of these charges, he will be charged with five second-degree misdemeanors. His fine will likely balloon to $2,500 and spend 300 days in jail if the maximum punishment is doled out for every count.
While the fine can be considered chump change for a player of his stature, the former San Francisco 49ers star will find that public perception will be a lot harder to recover. Since there’s no mention of any prospective trials, it’s likely that the matter will be settled out of court.
