The San Francisco 49ers went 4-0 on Sunday after another impressive win. This time around, it was the Arizona Cardinals who fell victim to the Niners’ dominance, as the home team secured a 35-16 victory at Levi’s Stadium.
This was thanks in large part Christian McCaffrey, who turned in yet another amazing performance in his first full season with the 49ers.
Christian McCaffrey’s Historic Performance
CMC came into Sunday’s game with at least one touchdown in 12 consecutive games. It was only a matter of time before he made it 13 in a row and in the process, broke the long-standing record of Niners icon Jerry Rice.
McCaffrey was far from done, though. He kept his foot on the gas throughout the contest, finishing with 20 carries for 106 yards and three touchdowns. The All-Pro RB also logged seven receptions for another 71 yards and a TD.
Talk about a massive day at the office for CMC.
San Francisco 49ers Star Trent Williams Has High Praise for CMC
McCaffrey has been so impressive to start the season that he’s leaving even his own teammates in awe. Niners star Trent Williams had nothing but high praise for McCaffrey after witnessing yet another brilliant performance from the 27-year-old:
“It’s a pleasant surprise every Sunday,” Williams said, via Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area. “He just never ceases to amaze me, hurdling a safety, standing on your feet, getting a [touchdown]. It’s just impressive.”
Williams had a pretty good idea of how good McCaffrey was even before he joined the 49ers last season. However, even the 10-time Pro Bowl tackle admits that he didn’t expect CMC to be this good:
“I didn’t,” Williams said with a smile. “I ain’t going to lie. I watched him from afar for a long time. I knew he was really, really good and really special and could do a lot of things conventional running backs can’t do.
“But watching him play conventional running back, it’s like, ‘Wow.’ How can you be that talented in the open field, playing wide receiver and then lineup in the I-formation and still continue to gash defenses. He’s a special player, he really is.”
At this point, Williams is all in on the CMC hype train. In fact, the veteran believes that McCaffrey is on track to be the first non-quarterback MVP in 11 years:
“All those streaks come to end eventually,” Williams said. “This might be the year. I could see it.”
