The 6-10 San Francisco 49ers will travel to Glendale, Arizona, to play against the 7-9 Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium on Sunday afternoon for their regular-season finale. With a loss to Arizona, San Francisco, which currently has the 11th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, will secure the 11th pick in next year’s draft. However, with a win over the Cardinals, a Dallas Cowboys loss to the Washington Commanders, and an Indianapolis Colts loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, the 49ers would fall to the 14th pick, h/t Kyle Madson of Niners Wire.
San Francisco 49ers QB exited with two minutes left with an injury
Brock Purdy suffered an apparent right elbow injury after being sacked by safety Brian Branch with under two minutes remaining in Week 17 against the Detroit Lions. Purdy exited the game and threw a handful of passes on the sidelines to determine whether he could return. The pain was too much for the quarterback, and Joshua Dobbs took over.
During their postgame press conference, Purdy told the media that he avoided another significant injury to his UCL. He also said that he underwent testing on his UCL, which came back negative. He will undergo an MRI on Tuesday.
“We did some tests with UCL stuff, and I’m good in that regard,” Purdy said. “But we’ve just got to go get imaging on it tomorrow and see the whole thing.”
For reference, the last time the star quarterback suffered a significant injury to his right elbow was in 2023, when he tore his UCL during the first half of the NFC Championship Game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The San Francisco 49ers QB avoided anything serious
According to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team, head coach Kyle Shanahan, during Tuesday’s press conference, told the media that an MRI determined that Brock Purdy avoided a serious injury to his right elbow. As Meirov points out, Purdy suffered a right elbow bruise and some nerve inflammation. Since the 49ers have nothing to play for, their quarterback, who will soon sign a lucrative contract extension this offseason, isn’t expected to play against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 18.
#49ers QB Brock Purdy is unlikely to play in Week 18 against the Cardinals. The good news, according to Kyle Shanahan, is that he avoided a serious injury to his elbow. Purdy has been diagnosed with a right elbow bruise and some nerve inflammation. https://t.co/LUm5LzcmFS
