The San Francisco 49ers signed Sam Darnold to the roster this offseason. With the new three-quarterback rule the NFL implemented, Darnold could be an important part of the room this season. One NFL analyst is taking it a step further. NFL.com’s Adam Schein made an outlandish claim about Darnold in a recent article.
San Francisco 49ers Sam Darnold: A Bold Take
Schein wrote his list of 2023 NFL MVP dark horse candidates. Darnold was on that list. At +10000 odds, he was the most unlikely person on the list but the analyst said it all comes down to Kyle Shanahan’s offense.
“With Darnold in the starting lineup, I firmly believe Kyle Shanahan’s 49ers can win 11-to-13 games and be bona fide Super Bowl contenders.”
Schein is worried about Brock Purdy‘s elbow and Trey Lance is still a complete unknown. It would not be shocking if Darnold got playing time and if he were to lead the team to 13 wins, he might get some MVP talk.
You Lose Me At MVP
Could Darnold come in and win some games? I truly believe yes. Shanahan has proven his offense is very quarterback friendly. You lose me at the MVP talk. Obviously, this article is bold predictions so it makes sense that there would be a couple of outlandish takes. However, there is no way that Jalen Hurts, Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers, or any of the other star quarterbacks get beat out by Darnold. That’s my bold (is it really that bold?) take for the season.
The San Francisco 49ers may need to call upon Sam Darnold this season. If Shanahan can resurrect his career, we might just have to call him the best coach in the game.
