Despite his recent struggles with the Denver Broncos and talks that he’s already washed, Russell Wilson remains confident that he can still be a game-changing and winning QB in the NFL. Sure enough, however, not everyone believes that.
Wilson recently declared that his goal in the next five years is to win two more Super Bowls, a declaration that was met with scrutiny and mockery.
Russell Wilson’s Super Bowl Declaration
In a recent interview on I AM ATHLETE, Wilson made the bold statement about his career, noting that he’s not ready to retire just yet and he, in fact, has more “fire” in him now more than ever after everything he had gone through over the last two years.
Wilson has failed to lead the Broncos to the playoffs in his two years so far with the team, and while he’s not alone to blame for their struggles, he has largely been used as a scapegoat. He is expected to be released by Denver this offseason, which would make him a free agent.
Despite the uncertain future he’s facing, Wilson made sure to let all NFL teams know that he’s still at the right space mentally when it comes to competing and winning. There have been a number of teams linked with Wilson before he’s even released, but there are also fears he might find himself jobless considering his age and recent decline.
“I’ve got more fire now than ever, honestly, especially over the past two years of what I’ve gone through,” Wilson shared.
“For me, it’s about winning. Over the next five years, I want to win two [Super Bowls]. I want to feel the chill of that trophy again.”
That’s definitely something that interested teams want to hear from Wilson. With such a chip on his shoulder and hunger to prove his doubters wrong, he should have enough motivation to go all-out wherever he plays next.
Russell Wilson Gets Mocked for Super Bowl Claim
Unfortunately for Russell Wilson, while his confidence is commendable, a lot of fans are not buying it. After all, he has been saying that he wants to win again for years now, but it has led him nowhere since joining the Denver Broncos.
“I want to date Sydney Sweeney, just as likely as Russ winning two Super Bowls,” an X user wrote on the comment section of the I AM ATHLETE video.
“Poor Russ man, he only knows ONE Speed… Also this is comedy Gold,” another commenter shared.
A third critic added, “And I want to be a billionaire. Odds aren’t good for either of us.”
A Broncos supporter furthered, “If Russ was being real about winning 2 SB in the next 5 years in Denver he’d restructure his deal to bring in FA’s to help him win those SB. He doesn’t really want to win. Get him out of Denver…NOW.”
Sure enough, until Wilson proves on the field that he can still impact winning, what he said about winning a Super Bowl will remain just that: all talk.
