The Green Bay Packers had a subpar season in 2022. One big reason for this was the play of Aaron Rodgers. After back-to-back MVP seasons, Rodgers struggled to find his groove this year. This has led to questions about what his future will be. Adam Schefter reported today that an Aaron Rodgers trade is definitely in play.

Aaron Rodgers Trade A Real Possibility

Schefter reported that we should not count out a Rodgers trade. While the contract situation is tricky, it isn’t impossible. It seems that the Packers and Aaron Rodgers want to move in different directions and this could cause a trade to happen. On an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers was very candid about where he was at. Part of this was name-dropping some teammates he wanted to see back. He named Marcedes Lewis, Randall Cobb, Allen Lazard, Robert Tonyan, and David Bakhtiari. Everyone but Bakhtiari is a free agent and bringing them all back will be challenging. This is why an Aaron Rodgers trade has become more of a possibility.

    Personnel Divides

There is doubt that the Packers want to bring back all of these players. Take out the question of whether they can afford to or not. Lewis and Cobb are aging players past their prime. Lazard can probably get a lucrative contract on the open market. Tonyan hasn’t looked like himself since the ACL injury. Dakhtiari is under contract but his cap hit is high. Bringing all of these players back is essentially running it back with a team that went 8-9 this season. The Packers want to move on, but Rodgers does not. This is where the divide comes and why an Aaron Rodgers trade could happen.
