The Kansas City Chiefs offered a brief update on Rashee Rice’s situation with the team this offseason following his legal troubles in Texas. Rice faces eight felony charges in connection to an alleged high-speed racing crash in March.
Rashee Rice surrendered to police
Rice surrendered to police last week and has since posted bail. Following his surrender to police, it was immediately unclear if Rice would be present with the Chiefs during OTAs this spring. The NFL is monitoring Rice’s investigation, and some reporters believe the league could suspend Rice after the wide receiver admitted to being a driver in the crash.
Kansas City Chiefs HC Andy Reid gives an update
The Chiefs held their first day of OTA workouts on Monday. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid was asked about Rice’s involvement with the team. According to Ian Rapoport with the NFL Network, Reid said Rice would be a virtual participant with the team:
“I’m leaving that, like we’ve done most of these, for the law enforcement part to take place and then we will go from there with that.”

Reid is with the team…kinda…for now, at least
The Chiefs are holding virtual workouts during the first phase of OTAs. It’s unclear if the Chiefs plan to have Rice back in the building when OTAs are held at their facility. But for now, the Chiefs are going about their business as if the crash hadn’t happened.
