Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice spoke to the media on Tuesday. The troubled wide receiver wants to keep his focus on the Chiefs season instead of his personal life.
Rice faces eight felony counts in connection to a high-speed crash in Dallas during the Easter weekend. Rice was a suspect in a Dallas police investigation regarding an alleged assault at a nightclub. The victim asked for any potentially pending charges in the assault case to be dropped.
Rashee Rice: Accidents happen
As previously discussed on GH, Rice talked about his offseason issues in June. Rice said he learned from the incidents but acknowledged that those types of offseason shenanigans happen:
“I’ve learned so much from that. All I can do is mature and continue to grow from that. This is a step in a better direction for me.
“Accidents and stuff like that happen, but all you can do is move forward and walk around being the same person, try to be positive so that everybody can feel your love and your great energy.”
Rice is letting his team worry about a potential suspension
Rice was more purposeful in his answers to the media on Tuesday. Reporters asked if Rice had been in contact with the league regarding his legal issues and a possible suspension in the regular season. Rice said he was letting his team handle the situation.
“Honestly, It’s still a legal process, and my team is handling that,” Rice said.
The Chiefs are letting the legal process play out with Rice. The Chiefs have been known to let the league take its course before taking any disciplinary action. However, the Chiefs did release defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs this summer following an arrest.
Rice isn’t worrying about his off-field troubles during training camp. Rice said he’s trying to focus on football and becoming a better person.
“The main thing for me is being able to be the best person I can be for my team so we can all come together and dominate,” Rice said. “Just continue to surround myself with people that I want to be like and just continue to surround myself with people that allow me to grow.”
The Kansas City Chiefs offense is trending up
Rice thinks the offense is heading in the right direction in the preseason.
“I feel like our chemistry is going to continue to grow,” Rice said. “I feel like it’s been growing throughout the offseason and as well as during this camp right now, and all we’re looking forward to is to continue to grow and just get better, whether it’s preseason, regular season, or even playoffs.”
