Geno Smith is beginning his newest adventure in the NFL, as he’s now with his fourth team in the league, the Las Vegas Raiders. Smith has successfully rebuilt his NFL career, as he took advantage of the opportunity he had with the Seattle Seahawks. After five seasons with Seattle, including two where he earned Pro Bowl nods, Smith is looking to help the Raiders get back up.
With Las Vegas, Smith is going to work a lot with new Raiders offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, who is fresh off a stint in college football with the Ohio State Buckeyes. Kelly, however, isn’t a new face in the pros, having coached the San Francisco 49ers and the Philadelphia Eagles before.
Smith is seemingly excited to team up with Kelly, as the veteran quarterback shared a little bit of what his outlook is for the Raiders’ attack.
Via The Athletic’s Ted Nguyen of Kelly:
“We’ve always had a rapport with one another, which has made the transition smooth,” Smith said of Kelly. “And so, learning this offense, I’ve been in three different systems in three years. And so I’ve been able to adjust, and that’s something that I’m good at. I can adjust. And so, just an adjustment period, but the offense is really good. I’m looking forward to it. Won’t give too many details, but we’re looking to be explosive and efficient.”

The Raiders had one of the worst offenses in the NFL in 2024, as Las Vegas ranked just 29th with an average of 18.2 points per game. They were also 27th with only 303.2 total yards per contest.
But unlike last year, when the Raiders had Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew sharing duties under center, Las Vegas now has a Pro Bowler to handle things under center.
Smith was traded by the Seahawks to the Raiders in April before Las Vegas signed him to a two-year, $75 million contract extension.
