“They Set Up The Sam Darnold Thing”: Geno Smith Seahawks Trade Gets Inside Information From NFL Analyst

Geno Smith was recently traded away by the Seattle Seahawks last month by the Las Vegas Raiders. A few days after Smith’s trade was confirmed, the team announced that they were bringing in Sam Darnold from the Minnesota Vikings for a three-year deal. However, Mike Florio recently discussed that Seattle would have had cracked a deal already with Darnold before they traded Smith away.

Geno Smith played for the Seattle Seahawks from 2019 to 2024 after playing for the Giants and Chargers. Smith’s career in the NFL started with the New York Jets who selected him as the 39th pick in the second round of the 2013 NFL draft.

“I think they set up the Sam Darnold thing before they agreed to trade Geno Smith, even though that was days before they were allowed to talk to him. There’s no way they’re trading their starting quarterback without knowing that they have an acceptable deal in place for his replacement. I don’t think any team would have done that.” Mike Florio said on ‘ProFootballTalk’ about Geno Smith and the Seattle Seahawks.

Geno Smith will have plenty of responsibility on his shoulders from the Las Vegas Raiders, as the team hopes to improve from their rankings in the 2024 NFL season. In the previous season, the Raiders finished fourth in the AFC West after winning four games and losing 13. The Raiders were shown the door after playing their final game of the season against the Los Angeles Chargers and losing 34-20.

Geno Smith Excited To Play Under Pete Carroll In Las Vegas

While the Seattle Seahawks have done away with Geno Smith, the quarterback surely looks and feels happy about playing for the Las Vegas Raiders for the upcoming NFL season. In a recent interview, Smith expressed his happiness at reuniting with his old coach, Pete Carroll, who was announced as the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders earlier this year.

Smith and Carroll surely shared some great times together in the Seattle Seahawks, and will hope to forge a new and better journey together in the Las Vegas Raiders. In the previous season, quarterback Geno Smith managed to throw for a total of 4,320 yards, scoring 21 touchdowns while managing 15 interceptions for the team. Smith will hope to do much stronger in the upcoming season for the Las Vegas Raiders, under the coaching of Pete Carroll.
