The Las Vegas Raiders made the massive move to fire head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler just a few short weeks ago. Since that move, the team has been fired up and has looked like a completely different football team. Now, the question remains, how do they rebuild to get back to being a legitimate contender in the stacked AFC?
Many believe that a new quarterback will be needed to make that happen. Aidan O’Connell, the current rookie starter, has shown signs of being a solid starter, but not many believe he’s the long-term answer for the Raiders.
Over the last few months, there have been a lot of rumblings connecting Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields to the Raiders. Fields has struggled to prove he can be the Bears’ superstar franchise quarterback and Chicago may have an opportunity to select either Drake Maye or Caleb Williams in the 2024 NFL Draft if they choose to do so.
Should the Bears draft a new quarterback that they believe in more than Fields, they would then likely make Fields available for trade. If that does happen, a lot of people believe the Raiders should be first in line trying to acquire him.
Raiders Analyst Again Connects Las Vegas To Justin Fields
While we haven’t heard much about the Raiders and Fields since the NFL Trade Deadline, that changed when a Raiders’ analyst provided thoughts on the potential of that kind of move.
Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal was the one who came out and started the Fields to Las Vegas hype again.
“This is undoubtedly a possibility, although Aidan O’Connell will have a say in how this plays out with his performance over the next six games. If the Bears make Fields available, it will be because they are positioned to draft one of their preferred quarterback targets. That could lessen their asking price for Fields, but his market will be predicated on how much interest there is for him.”
Fields would certainly be an intriguing target for the Raiders. While he has yet to show the superstar talent that many expected from him this season, he has not been as bad as many have made him out to be.
So far this season with the Bears in eight games, Fields has completed 64.4 percent of his pass attempts for 1,587 yards, 12 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He has also racked up 400 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
Those numbers don’t look great, but Fields did miss quite a bit of time due to a thumb injury. He has shown flashes of the hype that he received during preseason action, but the Bears as a whole have been a huge disappointment. A lot of their failures fall on the shoulders of head coach Matt Eberflus.
At just 24 years of age, Fields would be well worth the gamble for the Raiders. They need to swing big to force their way back into the conversation. It wouldn’t be cheap, but it’s worth a gamble.
Expect to hear a ton of rumors about Justin Fields as the offseason draws closer. The Bears have a huge decision to make, and if they go in a different direction at quarterback, he will be the most talked about trade target in the NFL for needy teams.
