Raheem Mostert saw his season end in 2021 with a knee injury he suffered in week 1. Mostert had surgery after chipping cartilage in his left knee. Despite the setback, Miami still signed Mostert in the offseason as an unrestricted free agent. Now, he has been cleared to return for training camp.
“Wanted to give you all an update… Yah Boy is CLEARED!!! It’s go time!!” Mostert tweeted. “It’s been a long journey to get to this point!! I have so many people to thank. Starting with God, Dr. Cooper, and my wife.”
When healthy he has proven to be one of the most productive backs in the league, averaging 5.7 yards per carry in his career. He started his career as an unrestricted free agent, signing with the Philadelphia Eagles. Despite leading the league in scrimmage yards in his first preseason with the Eagles he was cut and signed to their practice squad. He bounced around the year for a few years before landing on the 49ers and securing his spot on a roster.
Mostert has several seasons cut short due to injuries, but when on the field he has shown how fast he can really be. Mostert has recorded a top speed of about 23 mph as one of the leagues fastest ball carriers, also clocking in a 4.32 40-yard dash back in 2020.
During training camp, he looks to compete for the starting spot alongside Chase Edmonds and Sony Michel, both new additions brought in this offseason.
