Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth had his appeal call with Los Angeles Chargers safety Derwin James regarding his suspension for a dirty hit. James’ appeal was ultimately upheld following the call. However, Freiermuth revealed in the appeal call that he did not think the hit was dirty.

The Chargers star safety was suspended for this week’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs for what the league called a ‘dirty hit’ on Freiermuth. James announced earlier in the week that he would be appealing this suspension, and despite the Steelers tight end coming to his defense, the suspension will stand. Here is the hit that caused the suspension:

Derwin James Career
James has been one of the top safeties in the league for most of his career, and has been a crucial component to the Los Angeles defense. He has amounted to 518 total tackles, 12.5 sacks, and eight interceptions in his career, but he has also been known for questionable hits on players.
While many may argue that if he is being suspended now, the league should have punished him earlier for some of the more brutal hits he has made. The Chargers will officially play the undefeated Chiefs this Sunday without their superstar or defense, along with many other key players missing playing time with injuries.
Do you think the NFL should have overturned the suspension after Freiermuth’s comments on the play?
