The Denver Broncos made headlines yesterday by announcing that they were going to bench QB Russell Wilson for the rest of the 2023 NFL season. Denver is facing a potential $37 million buyout for the quarterback, and they are looking to avoid having to pay out an additional $39 million on top of that.
Former Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown has never been shy about making his opinions known. So, it should not be surprising that he made strong statements about Russell Wilson getting benched. Still, you may not believe what he had to say about it.
Antonio Brown Claims Russell Wilson Is Getting Thrown Under the Bus
Antonio Brown claims that the Denver Broncos are putting all of the blame on Russell Wilson. He hints that there are bigger problems in the organization and that it is not surprising they are trying to pin all of the blame on Wilson. However, Brown was not quite so diplomatic in stating this. Here is what he tweeted about the situation:
“This how the crackers blame it all on you on the way out… nah fr…”
That was a caption to a video of Sean Payton’s press conference earlier. During that press conference, Payton claimed that the Broncos could not replace their entire offensive line and wide receiver core. On top of this response, Brown also tweeted this:
“Nfl caint wait to Russel Wilson you n***** what yall thought it was a Game huh.
NFL (n***** for life)”
Several people responding to these tweets did not fully understand the meaning of them. However, the implication seems to be that people in the front office are ready to kick a player while they are down. Then, they will toss them aside when they no longer need them or benefit from them.
Relating to Former Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown
It is no secret that Brown has been at the center of controversy in the past. This goes back to his dramatic exit from the NFL when he went shirtless at MetLife Stadium and ran off into the locker room during the middle of a Tampa Bay Buccaneers game. Over the past couple of years, fans have speculated that Brown has CTE symptoms.
If that is the case, it would make sense as to why Brown feels a little protective of certain players. The average NFL career does not even last four years. While Wilson and Brown played much longer than that, the point still stands about what a player’s worth to the NFL is once their career comes to an end.
