General manager Howie Roseman and the Philadelphia Eagles have a problem on their hands.

In large part, it’s the kind of problem that front offices and coaching staffs hope to have this time of year; a deep and talented roster that will make the decisions surrounding cut-down day difficult ones.
One position where the Eagles are going to need to try to strike a balance between rebuilding around highly-touted draft picks and experienced but expensive veterans is in the secondary.

At least one NFL analyst believes Roseman and the Eagles could look to unload some of their defensive backs via trade before the deadline to trim the roster down to 53 players.
“Philadelphia used its first two draft selections on cornerbacks Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean,” Josh Edwards points out for CBS Sports. “Darius Slay Jr. is eyeing a bounce-back campaign and the entire unit should have tremendous versatility. Former cornerbacks James Bradberry and Avonte Maddox are transitioning to safety, which is where Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, Reed Blankenship, Sydney Brown and Caden Sterns reside.
“The franchise also has Isaiah Rodgers, Kelee Ringo and Eli Ricks at cornerback. It is unclear how that entire group will shake out positionally, but there is reason to believe some of those players will be made available to potential suitors.”
Eventually, it simply becomes a numbers game in the secondary.
While finding a team to trade for either Slay or Bradberry’s bloated contracts off disappointing seasons from both veterans may prove difficult, if the Eagles aren’t sold on Ringo or Ricks developing into at minimum quality backups, they could be names to watch on the trade market in the coming days.
